The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly from NXT TakeOver XXX

By: Frank Hyden

GOOD- Breezango beat Legado del Fantasma and Danny Burch/Oney Lorcan

This was a fast-paced match, as you would expect with three teams involved. Tyler Breeze pinned Lorcan to get the win to kick off the show.

GOOD- Finn Balor beat Timothy Thatcher

There was some really good mat wrestling here from Thatcher but Finn pulled out the win. If you like watching Thatcher, you’d like this match. If you don’t like him, you wouldn’t.

GOOD- Damian Priest wins the vacant NXT North American Title

There were some crazy spots in this ladder match. Priest did the run up the ladder on the ropes to do a big flip to the outside and Velveteen Dream took a fall off the tallest ladder through a table at ringside and Candice LaRae was on Bronson Reed’s back as he did a splash to Johnny Gargano. Priest won and became the new champ and should have some great matches as he defends the belt.

GREAT- Adam Cole beats Pat McAfee

McAfee was absolutely unbelievable. He was so much better than you would have expected. I don’t even know where to begin. If you haven’t seen this match, try to watch it. It was just nuts. The only thing I didn’t like was Cole using the Panama Sunrise to finish McAfee. I hate that move because it looks like shit. You land with all your opponent’s weight on your crotch and I’m supposed to believe it hurts him? Some are better than others but as a general rule, it sucks. Anyway, that can’t take away from this match, though.

GOOD- Io Shirai beats Dakota Kai

This was a really good back-and-forth match. They hit each other with lots of big moves until Raquel Gongalez interfered and Kai almost got the win. Shirai hit Kai with a couple moonsaults to get the win.

GOOD- Karrion Kross beats Keith Lee to become the NXT Champion

I’m still not sold on Kross, as I think his facials need a lot of work as they’re too over the top, but his wrestling is fine. There’s no way they could have lived up to what the other matches were, but if they had more of a wild brawling type of match, it might have come close. They wanted to put Kross over strong, though, so he dominated large portions of this match. That’s the right move since it’s clear that Keith Lee is being called up to the main roster.

The only question is which show, RAW or Smackdown? Matt Riddle just came to Smackdown a few months ago so RAW seems more likely. But then, they have Drew McIntyre as champ, but it seems that they want to give Randy Orton another title run. So maybe Lee is brought in to be one of the guys to face Orton? I guess we’ll have to wait to see.
