Gamescom’s Opening Night Live show was yesterday. I’ll go through it and give some thoughts.
-It started with a cutscene from Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The devs say there will be multiple endings for the campaign and the multiplayer reveal will be in September. Eh, I don’t know, sounds like a regular Call of Duty game, for better or worse.
–Unknown 9 is a PC and next gen console game about a girl with supernatural powers. A CG teaser was shown, linked above. Hard to tell any quality but there’s potential there for sure.
-Doom Eternal is getting its first DLC in October. This looks awesomely gory so if you liked the main game you should like this.
-We get some behind the scenes talk about Dragon Age 4. Again, the potential is there but it’ll be a while before the game comes out.
-Christopher Lloyd is here to promote Surgeon Simulator 2. Ok, I’ll go with it. The game looks kind of fun if you’re into that type of game.
-Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead is a game. Here’s a live-action trailer for it. Huh?
-Sam and Max are going to be in a VR game. Blizzard is coming out with animations based on World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. I imagine fans will like this? We also get a trailer for Shadowlands, coming in October.
-A trailer for Warhammer: Age of Sigmar Stormground for the Switch.
–Crash Bandicoot 4 presentation. It’s a puzzle game, might be fun.
-Another CG trailer for Outriders
-A construction shooter type game called Teardown. Looks kind of fun.
–Little Nightmares 2 in February. Looks good.
-WWE 2K Battlegrounds shown. Looks all right, not my type of game, though.
–Star Wars Squadrons single player preview. Looks ok, but I’m not into flying games myself. If you are, this might be more exciting.
-The Sims 4 is getting a Star Wars expansion.
–12 Minutes has some star power, including Willem Dafoe, James McAvoy, and Daisy Ridley. Top down puzzle game, just watch the trailer, it’ll give you a better idea of what it’s about.
-Trailer for Warframe’s latest expansion, Heart of Deimos, available now. I’ve been playing it and it’s really good.
–Override 2 CG trailer. Not bad.
-Story trailer for Mafia: Definitive Edition, due in September for PC, PS4, and XB1. Graphics are really good.
–Lemnis Gate, an old-school style FPS.
–Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Fans of the Lego games should love this one as well.
–Struggling, a physics based platformer for Switch and PC. Looks kind of fun.
–Chorus, a space shooter. Looks very cool and fun.
-VR Medal of Honor is announced, here’s a story trailer.
–Spellbreak is out now, a spellcasting battle royale game on Switch, PC, PS4, and XB1.
-Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart extended demo. Still looks good, if you’re into these types of games.
Honestly, unless you have the time, you’re better off watching the recaps of these shows later rather than tuning in live. Especially a show like this that isn’t console or platform specific. This wasn’t a bad show by any means, but it likely had a lot of stuff you didn’t care much about. Still, this was a decent show.
Real fast, September’s Games With Gold lineup is The Division 1, The Book of Unwritten Tales 2, de Blob 2, and Armed and Dangerous. Not a great lineup but it it what it is, I guess.
