GOOD- FTR wins a tag team gauntlet match to determine the #1 Contenders
Chris Jericho joins the commentary team to begin the show. The Young Bucks eliminated The Natural Nightmares after some good action. Then, Best Friends eliminated The Bucks. Then, FTR eliminated Best Friends. The Bucks were eliminated after “Hangman” Adam Page held Nick Jackson’s leg and that lead to a pin. I won’t even try to describe the action but I’ll just say that it was extremely fast-paced and exciting. A little too indie-riffic with the hundred kickouts after big moves and dives to the outside but there’s no doubt that this stuff is exciting. These matches are like a big dumb Hollywood action movie. If you just go with it, it’s fun, though you don’t remember most of it by the time it’s over. However, if you stop and think about it, the whole thing falls apart because it doesn’t make a lot of sense. So, depending on how you approach this, it was either GREAT or BAD so I’ll split the difference and go GOOD.
GOOD- Lance Archer squashes Sean Maluta
This was just a squash to get Archer over. He won with those Iron Claw slams he does. I really don’t like those, especially as a finishing move. They look so weak, like he’s laying them on a pillow. He’s literally slamming his own hands into the mat. Anyway…
BAD- Jake Roberts/Taz promo
Jake is talking up Archer when Taz, Brian Cage, and Ricky Starks show up. They insult each other, which I don’t like. There’s no money in Archer vs. Cage right now, you have to build them up. So what’s the point of this? It gets worse as Darby Allin skateboards in and attacks Starks. This was just a cluster. Moving on.
GOOD/BAD- MJF promo, Jon Moxley promo
MJF cut a great promo for his contract signing for his match with Moxley at All Out. He cut down Moxley in such an entertaining but also believable way. Then Moxley opened his mouth and it went downhill. He tries to switch between Stone Cold and The Rock but does neither. It’s the same shit John Cena used to do, and I hate it just as much now. Either you’re the cool badass who doesn’t give a damn or you’re the insult comic dropping one-liners, you can’t be both. Pick a lane and stick to it. It even got worse as Mox slipped in a clause about getting a match with MJF’s lawyer next week. If the lawyer doesn’t show up, MJF doesn’t get his match.
This is so dumb. Why do I care about some non-wrestler getting his ass kicked? We’ve never seen the guy before and we’ll never see him again, so who gives a crap? I don’t get it, is the idea to get Moxley over as a badass? If you don’t think Moxley is a badass already, seeing beat up some guy isn’t going to change your mind. Why waste valuable time on this?
GOOD- Lucha Brothers and The Butcher and The Blade beat Brian Pillman Jr., Griff Garrison, Joey Janela, and Sonny Kiss
There was no question that Lucha Bros. and Butcher/Blade were going to win. They were just formed so this was just a squash to try to get them over. Regardless, the action was pretty good and they were able to showcase themselves well.
GOOD- Brodie Lee promo
Brodie Lee cuts a promo about destroying Cody. The Natural Nightmares, Matt Cardova, and Scorpio Sky hit the ring and clear house.
GOOD/BAD- “Big Swole” Aerial Monroe beats Penelope Ford and Rebel
If Big Swole won, she gets a match against Britt Baker. She of course won, despite a bunch of interference and the odds being against her. People winning handicap matches is so lame because you know it’s going to happen everytime and it makes those involved in it look bad. I do like Britt Baker but I didn’t care for this too much.
GOOD- Sammy Guevara beats Matt Hardy in a tables match
This had some pretty good action. Sammy bled and took some hard bumps but ended up winning with a superplex through a table and chair. After the match, Orange Cassidy attacked Chris Jericho at the announcer table as the show went off the air.
