GOOD- Jeff Hardy beats Shinsuke Nakamura to retain the Intercontinental Title, Sami Zayn returns
Before the match, Vince McMahon told Adam Pearce to get The Fiend, Braun Strowman, and Roman Reigns to sign the contract for their match at Payback. Pearce got Bray Wyatt to sign by coming onto The Fire Fly Funhouse set dressed as a mailman. The Hardy/Nakamura match was fine, this was more to further the feud between Hardy and AJ Styles, who was doing commentary during the match. After the win, Sami Zayn came out and attacked Hardy, proclaiming himself the true IC Champ, since he never lost the belt.
GOOD/BAD- Matt Riddle beats Shorty G, challenges King Corbin
The match between Riddle and Gable was just about nothing. It was very short, though you could definitely see the potential there for a great match. This felt more like a tease than anything else. Riddle challenged Corbin to a match, which Corbin later accepted for Payback.
GOOD- Bayley and Sasha Banks promo
This was some more great promo work by these two. The Bayley digs at Sasha not being to defend the RAW Title or going to call her Two Belt Banks then stopping as she realized she wasn’t anymore were really bothering Sasha, which she sold well. The side eye looks from Sasha and when she said at Payback that she’ll get her vengeance while looking directly at Bayley were great. Shayna Bazler and Nia Jax interrupted on the Tron and hyped their match at Payback for the Tag Team Titles. Jax was…not very good on her promo (no surprise there) and Shayna was okay (you can tell she’s getting better, though). This was a good segment.
BAD- Braun Strowman squashes Drew Gulak
Gulak had hit Strowman in the back with a chair backstage, which Braun completely no-sold. Braun told Pearce he’d sign the contract if he got Gulak in the ring. The match was just a quick squash, which makes Gulak look like a chump.
GOOD- Cesaro beats Kalisto
Kalisto told Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik to stay backstage to watch how it’s done. Just after he walked off, Cesaro and Nakamura attacked them. This caused them to come down to ringside, which distracted Cesaro and allowed him to get the win. This started another argument between the three. I don’t know why they want to break up Lucha House Party, you know they’re not going to do much with these guys.
GOOD- Alexa Bliss is going crazy promo
Nikki Cross and Tamina talked shortly about worrying about Alexa, who bounced into frame with her old pigtails hairstyle. Nikki saw a braid that reminded her of The Fiend, which set Alexa off and caused her to get angry and smash her friendship mug as she stormed off. I mainly went good because of the potential for where this is going.
GOOD- Heavy Machinery and Big E beats Miz and Morrison and Sheamus
This was a solid match. Sheamus kept yelling to get tagged in and eventually stormed off when he wasn’t. Miz hit his finisher on Otis but Big E was legal and hit Miz with the Big Ending for the win. Real quick, Big E needs a new finisher because that move is terrible. Putting a guy on your shoulder then dropping to the ground is dumb. Big E takes a big flatback bump and the other guy just drops to the ground. It’s just a horrible finisher and should change ASAP.
GOOD- Roman Reigns aligns with Paul Heyman
Pearce was finally able to get to Reigns to have him sign the contract, and it’s revealed that he’s working with Heyman now. Quite a twist for the longtime enemies to be working together. I like it and it’s a good way to end the show.
