GREAT- Io Shirai beats Shotzi Blackheart
This was a fantastic match. Shotzi brought it and they delivered some punishing moves to each other. Blackheart hit Shirai with a tight Tiger Suplex and at another point Shirai gave Blackheart a German Suplex on the freaking apron. Ouch. They were given plenty of time and could have easily main evented if this were a title match. This was a great way to start the show.
GOOD- Tommaso Ciampa squashes Desmond Troy
This was just another squash to get over Ciampa’s vicious attitude. After the match, Jake Atlas comes out and challenges Ciampa.
GOOD- Kushida beats Austin Theory
Kushida continued showing more intensity and submitted Theory with the Hoverboard Lock. I assume they have something in mind for Theory and aren’t just jobbing him out for no reason.
GOOD- Breezango beats Imperium to retain the NXT Tag Titles
This match was solid. There was a lot of beatdown on Fandango early. Eventually they turned it around somewhat and got the win.
GOOD- Kayden Carter and Kacy Catanzaro beats Xia Li and Jessi Kamea
You knew Carter and Catanzaro were going to win but this was still a fun match. Carter showed some really good intensity and they did some cool double team moves, including the finish. After the match, Li refused a handshake and stormed off.
GOOD/BAD- Undisputed Era vs. Drake Maverick ends in No Contest
Roderick Strong and Bobby Fish took turns beating on Maverick. Killian Dain was supposed to be Maverick’s partner but he refused. He ended up coming down after some prodding by GM William Regal and cleared the ring, then punched Maverick. To be honest, I’m just not feeling this. Maverick does a good job being the sympathetic babyface and Dain is a fine monster heel but for some reason I’m just not caring as much as I should. I should be into this, it’s a lot like X-Pac and Kane from like 20 years ago. I don’t know why I’m not into this that much. Maybe I’ll change my mind in a few weeks when Maverick wins him over?
GOOD- Damian Priest beats Timothy Thatcher to retain the NXT North American Title
This was a good match, I like Thatcher’s style and Priest always surprises you with the athleticism he shows. Highlights of this would be a Tiger Suplex from Thatcher to Priest on the floor and Priest with a big spinning heel kick off the top rope. Priest won to retain his belt, which we all knew was going to happen. There’s no way NXT was going to have Priest lose his first title defense, same with Breezango and the tag titles. That was a little more in doubt, though, because NXT seems to love Imperium and making Breezango look like chumps. Anyway, this was a good match and a good way to end the show.
