AEW Dynamite had their show upended a bit because Lance Archer had to quarantine after coming into contact with someone so the 6-man tag main event was changed to AEW World Champion Jon Moxley vs. Eddie Kingston. Let’s get to the rundown.
GOOD- Miro and Kip Sabian beats Joey Janela and Sonny Kiss
Miro showed off his tremendous power, he looked so big in the ring with these guys. He hit Sonny with a sidekick and got the tapout with a Camel Clutch.
GOOD- “Hangman” Adam Page beats Evil Uno
Once again, Kenny Omega joins the commentary booth. He’s unique enough that he stands out, so that’s good, but he doesn’t really add much to the commentary. It’s a nice way to get him on TV though, without having him wrestle. The match was pretty good. Uno got in a fair amount of offense before Page finished him with the Buckshot Lariat.
GOOD- Brodie Lee beats Orange Cassidy to retain his TNT Championship, Cody returns
They did a really good job showing the size and strength difference here between these two, but also the speed difference. The Dark Order interfered a few times to protect Cassidy, including the finish as Lee hit him with a spinning clothesline. I liked this match pretty well, it was my favorite match of the show, though the main event was up there as well. After the match, Cody made his return and beat up 5. After the break, Lee gave a backstage interview where he yelled at Cody and challenged him to a dog collar match. He talked as if Cody were scared of him and ran away, when it was actually Lee who took off when Cody returned. It would have been nice if the announcers had brought that up.
GOOD/BAD- Isiah Kassidy challenges Chris Jericho
Matt Hardy came to the ring and talked a bit about being attacked last week. He blamed Chris Jericho, which brought The Inner Circle out. Hardy challenged Jericho but Marq Quen interrupted for a moment before Isiah Kassidy was the one who challenged Jericho for a match. Both of their mic skills need a good deal of work but it was effective enough to get the point across.
GOOD- FTR announces the 20 Minute “Brush With Greatness”
FTR and Tully Blanchard talked about how they’ll compete in title matches, but with a 20 minute time limit. They first challengers are SCU, that should be a hell of a match. Best Friends came out and wanted to fight tonight but FTR told them to rest up and prepare for their upcoming match with them.
GOOD- Hikaru Shida and Thunder Rosa beat Diamante and Ivelisse
The match wasn’t long enough and I kind of would have liked to have seen Shida and Rosa’s lack of team experience cost them the match, but I assume they’re working towards that and will use that to set up the inevitable rematch between the two. This match was fine but it could have been even better with more time.
GOOD- Jon Moxley beats Eddie Kingston to retain his AEW World Championship
They traded stiff chops early before moving to the power moves. Moxley made Kingston pass out and then Pentagon Jr. and Rey Fenix ran in and stomped Moxley. Will Hobbs ran in to try to make the save but got overwhelmed by the numbers before Darby Allin’s music played for a second and he came out and attacked the heels with his skateboard. Ricky Starks took him out as Taz walked out and the heels stood tall as the show ended. That’s about as good a way they could have ended the show given the last minutes changes they needed to make.
