-The Atlanta Falcons choked away a 16 point lead and lost to the Chicago Bears 30-26. The Bears cut the lead to 10 points with 6:24 left in the 4th quarter. That’s still a huge lead. What did the Falcons do? They had 3 straight three-and-outs. Hell, one drive took 11 seconds off the clock. 11 seconds. That’s pathetic. They’ve obviously learned nothing. This is the second week in a row where they’ve blown a huge lead. I hate to be that guy who just yells out “Fire the coach!” but JFC, what else can you do? That’s a rhetorical question, it’s clear what they need to do. They need to trade Julio Jones, they need to trade Matt Ryan, they need to trade Deion Jones or anyone else in who might have some trade value and start all over. It’s not enough to just fire the entire coaching staff, which they need to do because every unit is underperforming. Offense, defense, special teams, they’re all massively underperforming. The offense can put up a lot of points and get these huge leads, but when they just need to put together a drive, they can’t do it. I blame Matt Ryan for this just as much as I do anyone else. He’s been in the league for a dozen years. When you have a lead and the playcall comes in and it’s one of those dumb pass plays, he needs to check to a run. I’m not saying they need to run against an 8 or 9 man box, but there are runs to be had. I was saying that 4 years ago during their Super Bowl collapse. Hell, we all were. I imagine the majority of people watching these collapses have been sitting there and shaking their head in disbelief at the lack of run plays.
Matt Ryan needs to check to some runs sometimes. And if any of the coaches start to complain, tell them to shut the hell up. It’s hard to imagine Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Joe Montana, Dan Marino, etc. losing like this over and over again. It’s one thing for it to happen once or even twice over the years. The Falcons collapsed on the biggest stage in football and blew a 28-3 lead. They’ve now lost in consecutive weeks a 15 point lead and a 16 point lead in the 4th quarter. Two straight weeks of this shit. Given their history, there’s no excuse for that. The Atlanta Falcons fans deserve better.
-In other games, The Seattle Seahawks won a shootout with the Dallas Cowboys 38-31 in which Russell Wilson threw 5 touchdowns. He has 14 touchdowns in 3 games, a NFL record. Dude is amazing. DK Metcalf had a brain fart and slowed up and got caught just before the endzone or it would have been 6 touchdowns for Wilson.
-The Buffalo Bills choked away a 28-3 lead to the Los Angeles Rams but came back and won 35-32 as Josh Allen continued his great play, throwing for 311 yards and 4 touchdowns. The San Francisco 49ers beat the New York Giants 36-9 despite not having basically half their starters. Cleveland beat Washington 34-20, the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles tied at 23, New England beat the Las Vegas Raiders 36-20, the Steelers beat the Texans 28-21, Titans beat the Vikings 31-30, Panthers beat the Chargers 21-16, Colts beat the Jets 36-7, Lions beat the Cardinals 26-23, Bucs beat the Broncs 28-10, and the Packers beat the Saints 37-30. The Chiefs and the Ravens play tonight in what is sure to be another great game.
-The Miami Heat beat the Boston Celtics 125-113 yesterday to win the series 4-2 and advance to the NBA Finals, where they’ll play the Los Angeles Lakers. Miami was led by Bam Adebayo with 32 points and 14 rebounds and Jimmy Butler with 22 points and 8 assists. Boston was led by Jayson Tatum with 24 points and 11 assists and Jaylen Brown with 26 points and 8 rebounds. Marcus Smart and Kemba Walker each had 20 points as well. The Heat went on a 26-6 run in the 4th quarter to seal the series. The Finals start Wednesday.
