The Philadelphia Eagles beat the New York Giants last night 22-21 to move to 2-4-1 and take the lead (perhaps temporarily) in the NFC East. If you’re 2-4-1 and anywhere close to the division lead, let alone leading the division, your division stinks. The Dallas Cowboys play the Washington Football Team Sunday and if they lose, there’ll be 3 teams with 2 wins apiece in the division and the Giants will only be a game or so out of first place. That’s just crazy to think about, considering that we’re almost halfway through the season.
Back to the game, the Giants had an 11 point lead in the 4th quarter before choking it away. Evan Engram didn’t come down with a catch to extend a drive, there were some defensive lapses that allowed the Eagles to make some big plays, and there were also penalties that hurt them. The Eagles just made the plays that won them the game. It wasn’t pretty, but a win’s a win.
One play summed up the game for the Giants. Daniel Jones took off for an 80 yard run but tripped over his own feet and got touched down before reaching the end zone. There was no one near him, he just tripped and fell. Luckily for him, the Giants went on to score a touchdown that drive but that encapsulates the game, tripping over yourself with a clear path to victory.
