Another week of college football, another week of major upsets. 4 ranked teams were upset this week, with 1 more Top 25 team losing to a higher ranked opponent. Let’s get to the rundown and find out who fell this week.
#1 Clemson beat Boston College 34-28
This was almost an upset. Playing without Trevor Lawrence, the top-ranked Tigers trailed by as many as 18 points before shutting the Eagles out in the 2nd half. They’ll be without Lawrence again when they play Notre Dame next Saturday.
#2 Alabama beat Mississippi State 41-0
This was complete destruction. DeVonta Smith had 4 touchdown catches and 203 yards receiving as the Crimson Tide rolled easily.
#3 Ohio State beat #18 Penn State 38-25
Justin Fields had 318 yards passing and 4 touchdowns as the Buckeyes jumped out to an early lead and stayed there throughout.
#4 Notre Dame beat Georgia Tech 31-13
The Irish defense only allowed 1 touchdown, as the other came from a fumble return. Kyren Williams ran for 76 yards and 2 scores.
#5 Georgia beat Kentucky 14-3
Zamir White ran for 131 yards and a touchdown as the Bulldogs won a fight against the Wildcats.
Texas beat #6 Oklahoma State 41-34 in Overtime
The Cowboys had great numbers offensively but turned the ball over 4 times (sounds like another Cowboys team I know…) and the Longhorns turned that into 21 points. Oklahoma State was previously unbeaten but you can’t turn the ball over that many times and win a lot of games.
#7 Cincinnati beat Memphis 49-10
Desmond Ridder threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for 2 more as the Bearcats romped to stay undefeated.
#8 Texas A&M beat Arkansas 42-31
Kellen Mond and Feleipe Franks both threw for 3 touchdowns but the Aggies got the win.
#10 Florida beat Missouri 41-17
Kyle Trask threw 4 touchdowns as the Gators dominated a game that had a huge brawl just before halftime that saw 3 players ejected and could have had many more ejected. Plenty of punches were thrown but things didn’t spill over into the 2nd half.
#11 BYU beat Western Kentucky 41-10
The Cougars cruised to victory behind Zack Wilson’s 3 touchdown passes.
Michigan State beat #13 Michigan 27-24
Ricky Lombardi threw for 323 yards and 3 touchdown, with Ricky White getting 196 of those yards and a touchdown, as the Spartans pulled off the big upset.
Virginia beat #15 North Carolina 44-41
The Cavaliers got 3 touchdown passes from Brennan Armstrong to hold on for the big upset. Sam Howell threw for 443 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Tar Heels staged a furious rally that fell short. Dyami Brown had 11 catches for 240 yards and 3 touchdowns.
West Virginia beat #16 Kansas State 37-10
The Mountaineers pulled off the upset thanks to Jarret Doege throwing 2 touchdowns.
#17 Indiana beat Rutgers 37-21
Michael Penix Jr. threw for 3 scores and ran for another as the Hoosiers also got 3 interceptions on defense.
#20 Coastal Carolina beat Georgia State 51-0
The Chanticleers got 4 touchdown passes from Grayson McCall in the shutout.
#22 SMU beat Navy 51-37
Ulysses Bentley IV had 149 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns, Tyler Lavine had 74 yards rushing on 5 attempts with 2 scores, and Shane Buechele had 300 yards passing and 3 touchdowns as the Mustangs rolled.
#23 Iowa State beat Kansas 52-22
Breece Hall had 185 yards rushing with 2 touchdowns and Brock Purdy threw for 2 scores and ran for another as the Cyclones dominated.
#24 Oklahoma beat Texas Tech 62-28
Rhamondre Stevenson had 3 first half touchdowns as the Sooners led 48-14 at the half and then just coasted to an easy victory.
#25 Boise State beat Air Force 49-30
Jack Sears threw for 3 touchdowns and the Broncos got another 3 scores rushing to topple the Falcons, who got 415 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns but only completed 4 passes.
