RAW this week featured some good stuff and some bad stuff, as is usual. Let’s get to the rundown.
BAD/GOOD- Opening segment with Drew McIntyre attacking Randy Orton
Orton came out and cut a promo about being the best. The things is, sometimes I have no patience for Orton’s promos. He talks…so slow…and pauses…for a few seconds…for effect…It’s so bad sometimes and I just can’t sit through it, I don’t want to hear it. Alexa Bliss came out and teased The Fiend, and they even did the music, but when the lights came back up, Drew McIntyre was there and he Claymore’d Orton. He then said “I dare you to give me my rematch.” Ooh, I hope he doesn’t double dog dare him or Orton will have to give him the rematch. There’s your first facepalm of the night. Afterwards, The Miz tries to cash in his Money in the Bank contract but McIntyre stops him. I guess it’s good to see so many people going after the belt but why would The Fiend want to help McIntyre?
GOOD- Jeff Hardy beat Elias in a Guitar on a Pole match
The match was fine, I like the intensity from Elias. Hardy won after getting the guitar and smashing it over the head of Elias. I’m a Hardy fan but I think it would have been better for Elias to win this one.
GOOD- Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax beat Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke
This match was fairly good. It wasn’t anything great but it did establish that Rose and Brooke can compete with Baszler and Jax. They double-teamed each of them at separate points and only lost when Brooke got sent into Lana on the apron and then got submitted.
GOOD- Bobby Lashley beat R-Truth, Drew Gulak beat R-Truth to become 24/7 Champion
Lashley squashed R-Truth quickly then Gulak ran in to try to pin Truth, only to get the Hurt Lock submission applied to him as well. As Lashley threw him to the ground, he landed on Truth, pinning him and getting the title. This was fine, it sure makes Lashley look like a badass.
GOOD- Braun Strowman beat Keith Lee and Sheamus to join Team Raw
This was a Hoss brawl that was pretty good. The highlight was the Tower of Doom spot they did. That was pretty cool. Strowman won, as expected, to join Team RAW for Survivor Series. A.J. Styles was on commentary for this match and was great. That elevates this match for me.
GOOD- Firefly Fun House
I’m not generally a big fan of the Firefly Fun House stuff but the addition of Alexa Bliss has me interested. She’s pretty and I like watching chicks, what can I say? Plus, I’m also digging the whole white-eye contacts thing she’s got going on. Bray talked some about how He doesn’t forget that Randy Orton destroyed his compound years ago. Bliss did something where blood or red ooze or whatever came out of her mouth. Weird but okay, I’ll take it.
BAD/UGLY- Nia Jax beat Lana
One, this was a bad match. Jax squashed her and made her look like a total chump. Two, after she beat her, they did the damn spot where Jax puts Lana through the announce table…for the 7th time. Three, they talk about this like it’s a good thing. They’ve tweeted about it numerous times. This is stupid. They’ve run this into the ground worse than Family Guy has ever run something into the ground, and that’s a show that will have Peter holding his knee and going “Ooh, aahh…” for 30 frigging seconds straight. Or “Ooh, a piece of candy!” every second for 20 seconds. This is so dumb and such a waste of time. All they’ve accomplished is to diminish the table spot. Great work, get Jax off my TV.
GOOD- Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin beat The New Day
This was a good match that had quick action and plenty of excitement, as tag matches should. These guys delivered a fun match, as The Hurt Business set their sights on the RAW Tag Team Titles. They were given time and showed a lot of athleticism. No surprise, given the guys involved, but this was fun to see.
BAD- Ricochet beat Tucker
Ricochet beat Tucker very quickly and then was surrounded by Retribution. What the hell? One, so Tucker might as well just pack his bags back to Smackdown, right? Or just leave WWE all together? He just had his big heel turn against Otis, which was ignored last week, and now he loses in what’s essentially a squash and isn’t even a part of the aftermath? Two, the same goes for Retribution. Now they’re feuding with Ricochet? What the hell’s going on here?
BAD- Drew McIntyre beat The Miz and John Morrison in a handicap match
I hate handicap matches. I especially hate WWE handicap matches. The 1 in the 1-on-2 always wins, always. Well, that’s not completely fair because I’m sure there’s been times where the 1 actually loses but they always have the solo person get so much offense in that they might as well win because the duo always looks like shit. If you had a real handicap match, the two people would beat the shit out of someone by themselves. It wouldn’t even be close. Can one person beat two people in basketball? Or soccer? Or tennis? How about a boxing match? Or a MMA fight? It sounds absurd, doesn’t it? That’s because it is. It’s stupid. So Drew McIntyre beats two guys at the same time. That’s what they do to jobbers to try to get a monster heel over. You don’t do it to two guys on the midcard who should be in the upper midcard at worst and main event at best. Also, how does it make anyone who Miz and Morrison beat look? If they beat someone one-on-one, that makes the loser look like a piece of shit. It’s even worse if Miz and Morrison win a tag match because then you have a team that couldn’t even beat guys who lost to a single frigging guy.
What the hell’s the point of all this? To try to make McIntyre look like a badass so people might give a crap and want to see him fight Randy Orton for the 15th freaking time? No thanks. Pissing all over Miz and Morrison isn’t going to make me want to see that match anymore than I would otherwise. I’ll watch McIntyre and Orton wrestle because it’d probably be fairly good. I don’t need to see you shit all over talented guys to get there. We all knew what was going to happen anyway. McIntyre dominates and beats both their asses, then Orton comes in “out of nowhere” to hit the RKO and stand tall. Then they tease The Fiend and fade to black. I didn’t even watch the main event, I was watching Monday Night Football because I didn’t want to see that shit. I knew exactly what was going to happen. Not because I’m physic, but because it was so predictable. I watched it on DVR later, just in case I was wrong, but I wasn’t. Yawn is about as nice as I can be with this junk. I like Drew McIntyre but this was complete bullshit. There was no point to jobbing out Miz and Morrison like that. Just have it be a one-on-one match if you have to have it. This was a terrible way to end another up-and-down show.
