AEW Dynamite had their go-home show before the Full Gear PPV this Saturday. Let’s get to the rundown.
GOOD- MJF and Wardlow beat Sammy Guevara and Ortiz
Chris Jericho joined the announce team, and stayed there all night. He adds some to the commentary because of his personality but also detracts some. Again, because of his personality. He’s an active wrestler so it’s a fine line to walk. He also yells too much. Just about everyone he says, he yells. The match was fine, Guevara had some fun spots before being attacked by a disguised Matt Hardy at ringside. This allowed MJF to make Ortiz tap out for the win. MJF then attacked Jericho at the announce desk.
GOOD- Miro beat Trent
They did a good job of showing Miro’s power and toughness and also letting Trent get in plenty of offense. The Dark Order attacked Orange Cassidy at ringside, as he faces John Silver at the PPV. Miro won with the Camel Clutch.
GOOD- The Young Bucks beat Private Party
Matt sold his injured leg throughout the match. It was a pretty good match, no surprise given the guys involved. The Bucks won but FTR attacked them from behind. They were about to smash Nick’s leg even more until “Hangman” Adam Page finally made the save, followed shortly by Kenny Omega. Cash Wheeler had to really milk getting on the top rope, ready to jump onto the chair on Nick’s leg, as the timing was way off. Page was noticeably late making the save, it just looked like Wheeler was standing on the top rope waiting for him to run out. Not a huge deal but something to shore up for sure.
GOOD- Eddie Kingston and Jon Moxley face to face
The intensity of Kingston was so good here. Moxley was good as well but man, Kingston was so amped that he was almost on the verge of tears. This felt about as real as you could get, which hypes their match up so much. Seeing this makes you fully expect a bloodbath of epic proportions Saturday. I just wonder how this match is going to go, how are they going to get Kingston to say “I quit”? I don’t know, but I’m hyped for this match.
GOOD- Nyla Rose squashes Red Velvet, hype for Hikaru Shida match
The squash was whatever. I can’t go BAD for it because it did what it set out to do, set up a confrontation at ringside with AEW Women’s Champion Hikaru Shida. Vickie Guerrero ran down Shida after the match but she pushed her too far and Shida grabbed her, prompting Rose to jump in and they had to be separated.
GOOD- Cody and The Gunn Club beat The Dark Order
The match was fine, though Billy Gunn was given way too much offense against The Dark Order. Austin Gunn got the win with his finisher. Afterwards, Cody grabbed the mic and talked about facing Darby Allin Saturday at Full Gear. He said Allin wants the ace title in AEW but he’s not the ace so he won’t win, holding the TNT Title above his head. I like that this was the main event. Cody has main evented Dynamite plenty of times but I like seeing new faces in the main event. That’s one of the things AEW does that I think helps them against WWE. Nothing against any of them but there’s no reason shows have to be headlined by the same handful of people every week. Maybe it’s just me, though, but I like different things and to mix it up sometimes.
