The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly from WWE RAW 11/16/2020

By: Frank Hyden

RAW last night featured a huge title change, as Drew McIntyre defeated Randy Orton to once again become the WWE Champion. Let’s get to the rundown.

BAD- Opening build

Drew McIntyre and Randy Orton each talked some, then The Miz and John Morrison came out and talked some, but nobody really said anything. It was kind of hype for tonight but also not, it was kind of generic speak, nothing really too interesting. Meh.

GOOD/BAD- Asuka, Mandy Rose and Dana Brooke beat Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax, and Lana

This match was okay. The highlight was Baszler working over Rose’s elbow, which led to her having to be replaced in the Survivor Series match Sunday. Brooke also had to be replaced, as she was attacked by Reckoning backstage. Asuka made Lana submit, then they did the damn table spot for the 9th frigging week in a row. Lacey Evans and Peyton Royce will replace Rose and Brooke. Boy, it’s a real good thing they broke up The IIconics so Peyton Royce could get this monster singles push…

GOOD- New Day beat Cedric Alexander and Shelton Benjamin to retain the RAW Tag Team Titles

This was the best match of the night, but it wasn’t nearly as good as it could have been if they were given the right amount of time and spotlight. The way WWE does their commercial breaks can be really detrimental to the matches. AEW does the same thing, at least they don’t telegraph it as much but it’s still not good. I really wish somebody could figure out the best way to have breaks without hindering matches. Back to this match, these guys showed off their talents so I’m looking forward to this being a long feud. They’re already off to a good start.

GOOD/BAD- Retribution beat Matt Riddle, Sheamus, Keith Lee, and Braun Strowman

A.J. Styles was on commentary but left partway through the match as Team RAW kept arguing. The action was fine, but with this many people involved it was more about all the bodies in the ring and quick tags and action. The Retribution guys sold quite a bit for Team RAW but got the pin when Mustafa Ali rolled up Riddle. This match was okay but too short to showcase 8 guys and Retribution sold a lot because of Survivor Series. That, and they get treated like crap.

GOOD- Bray Wyatt beat The Miz

The match was nothing special but it was solid. Wyatt won with Sister Abigail. During the match, Alexa Bliss launched herself at John Morrison and they flew over the barricade at ringside. She emerged later and her and Wyatt walked off after the win before The Fiend showed up on the Tron and stared down at them. Before the match, Nikki Cross tried to get Bliss to leave but Bliss attacked her and they had to be separated.

GOOD- Drew McIntyre beat Randy Orton to become WWE Champion

Sheamus gave McIntyre a kilt and broadsword before the match, that he wore to the ring. They gave this match plenty of time as well, so you knew something big was going to happen. Orton tried escaping early to get counted out but Adam Pearce made the match No DQ/No Countout and it continued. They fought a lot outside the ring with weapons and table bumps. Eventually, McIntyre hit Orton with a Claymore and pinned him to win the title. This was a pretty good match. It’s always good to have a big title change. It doesn’t have to happen all the time, but there should at least be the possibility of it. This was a great way to end RAW.
