RAW featured some good stuff but, as always, suffered from being 3 hours long. It was still a fairly good show but damn, it would be so much better if they cut that extra hour. Let’s get to the rundown.
GOOD- Opening promo
Drew McIntyre came out complimenting all the matches from the Royal Rumble 2021. Edge interrupted and asked him what’s wrong with him? Why wasn’t he attacking him, why was he showering him with compliments? Before Drew could really respond, Sheamus came out and ran down Edge for having an attitude. Edge said he would make his decision who to challenge at a later time and left. Sheamus then hit McIntyre with a Brogue Kick, later saying they’re no longer friends. Also later in the show, McIntyre said that if Sheamus wanted a title shot, he could have it. Nice opening segment.
GOOD- Bobby Lashley gets DQ’d against Riddle, goes crazy
This was Riddle’s title shot but the match didn’t last long. Lashley cinched in The Hurt Lock but Riddle was in the ropes. The ref gave Lashley the 5 count, then disqualified him. This sent Lashley into a rage and he kept attacking Riddle. MVP kept trying to get him to stop but he wouldn’t. He even kept looking at MVP like he was going to attack him. They’ve certainly done a good job of making Lashley seem unstoppable.
GOOD- Xavier Woods beat Ali
This was a quick and fast-paced match. Woods won to get his series with Retribution members to 2-2. The match was pretty good, Kofi Kingston was ringside was Woods.
BAD/GOOD- Bad Bunny on Miz TV/Damian Priest beat Miz
Bad Bunny came out with his stupid haircut, what’s with the three puffballs on his head? What’s the deal with musicians dressing dumb and having bad haircuts? It’s like they do it in the beginning to try to stand out, then drop it when they get popular because of how stupid they look. Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj (dressed weird), Bad Bunny, The Weeknd (dumb haircuts). This was just another jock-sniffing segment where they let the celebrity play-act, Bunny was okay at times but also acted way too comfortable. Even when Miz was yelling at him, he just sat there instead of shitting his pants. This brought out Damian Priest, who wrestled Miz in a match. John Morrison distracted the ref so Miz went for the briefcase but Bunny took it away. Morrison went over to get it back but Bunny hit with his microphone in a shitty looking spot that probably hurt more than it looked, because it didn’t look very good. Anyway, at least Priest won in his debut, I guess.
GOOD- The Hurt Business beat Lucha House Party to retain their RAW Tag Team Titles
They had more dissension as Shelton Benjamin tagged himself in as Cedric Alexander was closing in on the victory. Some of the moves looked a little off but it was still a fairly good match.
GOOD- Lana and Naomi beat Asuka and Charlotte Flair and Dana Brooke and Mandy Rose
This match was okay, it’s good to see Naomi back. And Lana too, I like her. I know she’s rough in the ring but when she’s not being a screeching heel, I kind of like her. And Naomi just brings an energy that I really like. The finish came when Ric Flair and Lacey Evans came out onto the ramp and Charlotte tagged Asuka in and stomped off in anger. Naomi hit her with a hip attack and got the pin. Naomi and Lana are now the #1 contenders for the tag titles.
GOOD- Jeff Hardy and Carlito beat Elias and Jaxson Ryker
This was Carlito’s first match on RAW in 11 years. He looked pretty good, he’s bigger than before, which I’m sure Vince McMahon liked. This was a short match, and Hardy did all the selling before the hot tag to Carlito. He hit the backstabber, then Hardy hit the Swanton Bomb and got the pin.
GOOD- Alexa Bliss beat Nikki Cross
They did the transformation thing again, this time just with the regular Alexa Bliss character. Cross was doing her best but Bliss ended the match with a modified Sister Abigail. I really think Cross needs pushed more by WWE. Of course, you could say that for a lot of people. I’m not a fan of the transformation thing, but Alexa is so into the role and doing a good job that I find myself tolerating it or even liking parts of it.
GOOD/BAD- Edge beat Randy Orton
One of the BAD things is that they announced this match halfway through the show in passing. It was just like, “Oh, by the way, Edge and Randy Orton are wrestling again, for the final time also, in the main event.” Way to just throw this out there…Anyway, the match itself was good until the finish, when Alexa Bliss showed up on the top turnbuckle with a black liquid (blood?) oozing out of her mouth. That distracted Orton, who got speared by Edge and pinned. Bliss was gone and the show quickly went off the air. That was really weird, and I don’t like involving Edge in this stuff.
