I’ve been pressed for time a lot recently so I haven’t been able to keep up with the reviews. I’ll try to be better at that.
GOOD- Bobbly Lashley beat The Miz to defend the WWE Championship
Both men cut promos before the match, which were good. And the match was good for what it was, which is Lashley dominating Miz again. Lashley looks as strong and dominant as anyone in WWE in a long time. After the match, Drew McIntyre started cutting a promo on Lashley before getting attacked by Sheamus, setting up their No DQ match later.
BAD- Shane McMahon apologizes to Braun Strowman
Braun came out and demanded an apology from Shane for last week. Shane came out, apologized, then left but acted like he had more to say. He didn’t say anything, though, and I hate this whole angle. I know they’re setting up a match between Strowman and McMahon at WrestleMania, but how in the hell are they going to book that in a way that’s not completely ridiculous? I get that McMahon is actually a surprisingly large guy but he’s also 51 years old, and looks it thanks to all his gray hair. Also, Strowman is a huge man. The only way to book this without making Strowman look weak is to have a bunch of wrestlers attack Strowman over the course of the match, then Shane can do his big dive spot. And even then it’s going to look bad.
GOOD- Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus ends in a No Contest
These guys beat the hell out of each other. It was No DQ so they used some weapons and their bodies showed the damage. Cuts, bruises, and red marks were all over their backs. The finish came when they each had the top ring steps in their hands and ran at each other and went flying. Both guys stayed down for an extended period and the trainers and medical staff came out to tend to them. I think the No Contest ending works well here and sets up a rematch between them at Fastlane, though I think Sheamus should win that match because he loses all the time.
BAD/GOOD- Xavier Woods beat Shelton Benjamin
I know the point is to set up The New Day to challenge The Hurt Business for the RAW Tag Team Titles, but there’s no way in hell THB should lose the tag belts anytime soon. I guess the thought is that New Day can afford to take the losses but they should be trying to make THB look as good as possible. WWE always does that, they have whoever is losing at the PPV win or get the advantage in the brawls on the TV shows. It’s very predictable, which isn’t a good thing. I do expect a really good match between these teams next week, though.
GOOD/BAD- Riddle beat Slapjack
The match was pretty good, they were some nice spots in there. However, Retribution loses damn near every match they’re in. It’s ridiculous. They’re like The J.O.B. Squad, they deserve better than they get.
BAD- More Shane-O-Mac and Braun Strowman stuff
The segment was actually okay in a vacuum. Shane tricked Braun into thinking he left the arena in a SUV and as Braun stormed away, Shane appeared and said he was so stupid. The problem is, their match at WrestleMania should be 10 seconds of Braun punching Shane once, powerslamming him, then pinning him. Instead, it’ll be more like 20 minutes of brawling around the arena before Braun can finally put Shane away. No thanks.
GOOD- Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax beat Lana and Naomi to defend the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships
Baszler is good at playing the badass and Lana is so good at playing the overwhelmed and overmatched face. Naomi has good athleticism and Jax is a convincing monster heel. Reginald joined the heels, as Nia has taken a liking to him. There’s some decent comedy there but it’s not really needed. Anyway, Jax hit Lana with the chokebomb and pinned her, then carried Reginald to the back on her shoulder.
GOOD/BAD- AJ Styles beat Randy Orton
The match itself was pretty good. The finish was eh and predictable. Alexa Bliss appeared on the video screen and made Orton spit up that black stuff again, then Styles hit him with the Phenomenal Forearm and got the win.
